KERRY MAHER–

Singer/Songwriter

Kerry is a classically trained vocalist with a huge range. In addition to working as a soloist, she has performed in duos and vocal trios as well as several bands up to a 17 piece big band and full classical choirs and stage ensembles. She is able to perform many genres of music: from jazz to blues to soul and pop and even light opera and country. In her long career Kerry has worked with some of Melbourne’s finest musicians and vocalists and, as well as live performances, she has also appeared on TV and radio, done session work and radio commercials and she has composed arrangements for live shows and artists’ albums.

Kerry has always been a songwriter and has a vast collection of songs; lyrics especially. In 2020 she used the opportunity of lockdown to rediscover old songs as well as writing tunes and arrangements for lyrics old and new. She was inspired not only by her own experiences but by the shared stories from close friends and by the political and social issues that presented in 2020-21. Her songs have been shortlisted and awarded in both 2018, 2020 and 2022 in the national Australian Songwriters’ Association Contests.

Kerry is a dynamic performer with a powerhouse voice. She has a big range and can put a harmony on anything for great backing vocals. Kerry is very experienced; she can sing a huge variety of styles, with her favourites being soul, funk, rock, disco and pop. She is known for her rapport with an audience and can get people up on their feet dancing.

Kerry sings lush harmonies and she demonstrates a lovely lyrical and melodic sensibility. I especially like the orchestral and brass arrangements and the use of the bandoneon. The individual tracks work very well together forming a cohesive album.

Working with Kerry Maher is a pleasure as she is a complete artist; she can sing and play instruments plus compose and write songs at the highest standard of songwriting. Kerry has been a vital element due to her ability to teach others their correct harmonies as well as her own fantastic performance skills. She’s a true team player and always does what’s required to make things run smoothly; including organising vocal rehearsals and teaching others. Another string to her bow is her songwriting.
